THE SCANDAL WAS THE BEST PART.
KNOWN AS · Golden Spotlight
“ABSOLUTE LASSIE.”
In the Gilded Mile there are two versions of what Golden Spotlight wanted. Both are wrong.
THE FIRST RUMOR
Every city needs a story it tells after midnight. In the Gilded Mile, it is this one. She grew up watching the marquee lights of the Gilded Mile from a fire escape and decided one day they'd spell her name. She is easiest to find at midnight and hardest to find at noon.
EVIDENCE
SHE OWES ONE PERSON EVERYTHING.
SHE HAS NEVER OWED ANYONE A SINGLE COIN.
THE NIGHT IT HAPPENED
A tram conductor in once let her off one coin short of the fare. She came back the next morning with the coin, wrapped in paper, and would not leave until the conductor took it.
“She signed my programme.”
“She wrote 'sorry' next to it.”
WHAT THEY SAY NOW
The old version remembers scandals that the newspapers print in instalments. She still performs on the Gilded Mile. Tickets sell out. Nobody remembers buying them.
THE LEGEND LEAVES ONE THING OUT.
WHO PAID HER DEBT.

“In one version, she got exactly what she wanted.”
“In the other, she gave it away the same night.”
