SEEN BY NOBODY. KNOWN TO EVERYONE.
KNOWN AS · Iron Cipher
“PURE CHAOS.”
He was known for disguises so good he once sat next to himself at a dinner. That was the least of it.
BEFORE THE LAB
He was trained by the Lantern Bureau, where nobody pays for anything in public, then quietly erased from every record they had. He absorbs a room the moment he walks in; the lamps seem to lean away.
HE CANNOT REMEMBER HIS OWN BIRTHDAY.
HE KNOWS EVERY SECRET IN SEALEVEL.
THE THING THAT CHANGED HIM
Asked for a name by a clerk in , he gave four, one after the other, and then asked the clerk which one sounded right.

ARCHIVE PHOTOGRAPH
He lit a cigarette before every hard sentence in this file.
It never seemed to get any shorter.
WHAT HE BECAME
He has walked in every silent procession since the first one, and still has no idea who is at the front. In time he was known for leaving a single calling card that nobody has ever decoded. Later, and less proudly, for knowing exactly what everyone said in every room he wasn't in. He still sends the Lab one sealed envelope a year. Nobody has ever opened one.
He is still in the Gilded Mile. Everybody knows where. Nobody goes.
